Holds expire after 11:59PM EST on the day listed. For example, a hold listed as ending on August 19 will expire directly after August 19, 11:59PM. Alternatively, it can be looked at as the hold expires by August 20, 12:00AM EST. A new hold from a different journal placed at this time would be accepted.
